What people told us

Why do you support our Manifesto asks?

People should be able to expect more from society. Whilst we’ve made real progress over the decades for people with learning disabilities and autistic people in Wales —that doesn’t mean we stop here. We shouldn’t and can’t stop challenging systems. This is about continuing to push for better lives, real choice, and strong support in our communities.

Kate Allen

I want to see a Wales where people with learning disabilities and autistic people, can live the lives they want, and live where they want, with who they want. It is a basic human right, and we are currently not living up to that promise in Wales.

It really is possible to change it.

Oliver Townsend

I want an accessible inclusive Wales. All people who live in Wales deserve to be able to live their lives to the fullest without barriers. Each person in Wales deserves a safe space to call home that is surrounded by family and friends. No person should be allowed to slip through the cracks and feel isolated and alone.

Rhiannon Rees

I feel really strongly that we need to bring people with learning disabilities and autistic people back to their communities. There are too many people who are in unsuitable, isolating environments. We can and should do better than this.

Kirsty Davies-Warner

People with learning disabilities and autistic people matter.

Darren Millar, MS
Leader of the Welsh Conservatives

When I was growing up, my Dad was a carer in the adult placement scheme, and so in my home – and part of our family – were three gentlemen with profound and multiple learning disabilities. Everyone needs to feel safe and welcome and have the care and respect they deserve.

Matthew Jones

People with a disability should be able to live the lives they wish and in the places they choose.

James Wadlow

We should be doing everything we can as a society to enrich the lives of those with learning disabilities and those with autism. Supporting and funding this will enrich our society and build a better life for the future generations.

Joanne Sharifi

Supporting the Good Life Alliance manifesto is important to me because it reflects something very simple but powerful: everyone deserves to live a full life in their own community, close to the people who matter to them.

For too long, people with learning disabilities and autistic people have been placed far from home in settings that don’t always meet their needs. I’ve seen how this can affect not just individuals, but entire families — creating distance, stress, and a sense of being unheard. That’s why the manifesto’s focus on bringing people back home and preventing unnecessary placements really matters.

I’m also supporting this because it’s not just about identifying problems — it sets out clear, practical solutions. Investing in local housing and support, improving joined-up working across services, and simplifying funding are all steps that can make a real difference to people’s everyday lives.

Most importantly, this is about rights, dignity, and choice. People should be able to live where they feel safe, supported, and part of their community.

Being part of this movement means standing alongside others to push for change, and helping to build a system that works better for everyone — not just now, but for the future.

Kitty Treacy

I want people with learning disabilities to have freedom of choice in their lives. I would love people to live independently and safely in their homes.

Aimee Price

I believe that everyone should be able to live close to their family and friends, in homes that suit them, and with support that enhances their independence.

Annika Lea

I support the manifesto asks as they promote a rights based approach, community integration, empower people with learning disabilities, it has a holistic approach, targeting political action and social care reform. All of which are close to my heart!
